David Hirt<\/a>:<\/p>\n<h4>Bethany<\/h4>\n<p>(For Monday of Holy Week)<\/p>\n<p>You came into our life on feet<br \/>\nlike dusty heartbeats, beating bare,<br \/>\nyour human heart out-pouring love<br \/>\nand life for one whom even death<br \/>\nitself could not keep back from you.<br \/>\nAnd I have nothing worth your gift;<br \/>\nincomp\u2019rable, to place into<br \/>\nyour hands but my most costly thing;<br \/>\na poor excuse compared with All.<br \/>\nThis earthen vessel, feminine,<br \/>\nI break before your dusty feet<br \/>\nand pour its oil, perfumed and rich,<br \/>\nto cleanse the dust from calloused toes<br \/>\nand wipe them, intimate, with hair<br \/>\nthat just a spouse should see and fear<br \/>\nI intimate your death.
