Bombings.<\/p>\n<p>War. Violence. Obituaries.<\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0don&#8217;t have to go deep into the headlines to know that death and despair surround us. Our human family is suffering intensely. We all are.<\/p>\n<p>When I really let myself feel it, I squirm. Awareness of injustice gnaws at\u00a0my edges,\u00a0compelling me to feel uncomfortable with the peace and security that I enjoy daily.\u00a0The thickness of sorrow stews in my praying heart. Intercessory prayers begging the madness to end pour out of me; these prayers seem to be stuck on repeat.<\/p>\n<p>Then, a message from an ancient prophet quiets me:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><em>On this mountain he will destroy<\/em><br \/>\n<em>the veil that veils all peoples,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>the web that is woven over all nations;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>he will destroy death forever.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The Lord GOD will wipe away<\/em><br \/>\n<em>the tears from every face;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>the reproach of his people he will remove<\/em><br \/>\n<em>from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>On that day it will be said:<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>This is the LORD for whom we looked;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!&#8221;<\/em> \u00a0&#8211;<a title=\"Readings for 28th Sunday of Ordinary Time\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/101214.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isaiah 25: 7-9<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">There is hope for all nations! I know this is real. God&#8217;s power is stronger than death. The Truth of Easter teaches me this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">The beauty of God&#8217;s designs in nature also remind me that we can be people of hope. The colors of the falling leaves insist that even when death\u00a0and decay has its way, there&#8217;s reason to rejoice. There are many beautiful signs of God&#8217;s loving presence in the decay, in the changes and pain.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4624\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4624\" style=\"width: 521px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/customwordpresssites.com\/mjb\/2014\/10\/10\/hope-during-death-and-decay\/img_2637\/#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4624\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4624\" src=\"https:\/\/customwordpresssites.com\/mjb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/img_2637.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"&quot;colored decay by Julia Walsh, FSPA\" width=\"521\" height=\"694\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4624\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Colored Decay<\/em> by Julia Walsh, FSPA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Indeed, signs of hope surround us. God&#8217;s love is\u00a0known, even in the most awful, painful situations impacting our global family:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Many people of faith and hope are uniting and <a title=\"Congress Must Stop Syria Bombing and You Can Help Make It Happen by Kate Gould\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/kate-gould\/congress-must-stop-syria-_b_5869038.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crying out for an end to the bombing of Syria<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The international community is uniting to <a title=\"U.S. military planes arrive in Liberia, CBS News\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/u-s-military-planes-arrive-in-liberia-epicenter-of-ebola-outbreak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">help serve those impacted by the Ebola outbreak<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>People of faith unite with civic organizations <a title=\"Reflection: What can we do? By Pat Ferrone, Pax Christi \" href=\"http:\/\/paxchristiusa.org\/2014\/10\/07\/reflection-what-can-we-do\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to care for the most vulnerable and try to end war<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The people of God are helping God&#8217;s love and peace to be known! We all have a part to play. Each of us can become a sign of hope.<\/p>\n<p>Yes&#8211;through our service, advocacy and prayer we can see God&#8217;s signs of hope, even in the midst of death and discouragement.<\/p>\n<p>Yes&#8211;we can rejoice and be glad for God is saving us!
