It\u2019s all about sitting in the pew and turning to the person next to you and saying \u2018welcome\u2019 \u2026 a very powerful, active witness for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Liam also shares his perception from the contextual container people put him in as a Catholic writer, an identity through which he finds opportunity for welcoming and mutual listening. \u201cThere\u2019s no box that doesn\u2019t have an opening. You just have to unseal it,\u201d says Callanan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ABOUT THE GUEST<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Liam Callanan is a novelist, journalist and teacher. He is the author of <em>The Cloud Atlas<\/em>, and his nationally best-selling novel, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liamcallanan.com\/about-paris-by-the-book\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paris by the Book<\/a><\/em>, was translated into multiple languages and won the Wisconsin Council of Writers 2019 Edna Ferber Fiction Book Award. He is also the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=V22MG3aLs4c&amp;t=67s&amp;ab_channel=America-TheJesuitReview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2017 winner of the George W. Hunt, SJ, Prize<\/a>, awarded by America Magazine and the St. Thomas More Chapel and Center at Yale University. Liam\u2019s work has been published in The Wall Street Journal, Slate, The New York Times, The Washington Post and the San Francisco Chronicle, and he\u2019s recorded numerous essays for public radio. He has taught for the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers, Bread Loaf Writers\u2019 Conference, and currently is a professor at the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Wisconsin\u2013Milwaukee<\/a>.
