I started Messy Jesus Business in 2010 as a religion teacher at a Catholic high school. I needed to reflect on having a constantly messy desk while teaching the Gospel to teenagers. My vocation deepened and my ministries shifted, and this website grew to become a resource center and a community full of passionate voices. We explore the mystery of faith and the real struggle of taking Jesus and his teachings seriously.

Julia Walsh:
Julia Walsh is a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration based in Wisconsin. A storyteller, poet, and community-builder, her ministry experience includes teaching, retreat facilitation, preaching, spiritual accompaniment, justice advocacy, and caring for people who are unhoused and incarcerated. Sister Julia is the author of two books For Love of the Broken Body: A Spiritual Memoir (Monkfish, 2024) and 2026: A Book of Grace-Filled Days (Loyola Press, 2025). The author of numerous articles, her work has been featured on the BBC, Relevant Radio, U.S. Catholic, America, and National Catholic Reporter. In 2017 she received a Master’s in Pastoral Studies from Catholic Theological Union, Chicago. Today she serves her Franciscan community as a vocation director and speaks to a variety of groups about topics such as creativity, contemplation, and Gospel living.
